Scene from the popular romantic Shanghai opera Rendezvous at the Nunnery, first performed in 1868. Jin Xiuying and Chen Axing are engaged to be married since childhood. Family quarrels stand in their way, and they can no longer see each other. After nine years Jin Xiuying sets up a secret meeting with her childhood sweetheart. The two encounter each other on the way, near a small bridge, but neither one recognizes the other yet... A movie version was produced in 1956 by the Shanghai Film Studio.
