The text on the wall reads "Follow Chairman Mao forward amidst the storm and the waves" (跟着毛主席在大风大浪中前进！)

In his youth, Mao Zedong lived in the city of Changsha, and swam from this Juzi sandbar or "Orange Isle" in the Xiang River with his friends. It is immortalized in his poem Changsha - To the tune of Qingyuanchun (1925).
