Ye Ting (1896-1946) was commander in the New Fourth Army during the Civil War. He was imprisoned by the Guomindang in 1941.  In 1942, in a prison/concentration camp in Chongqing, he wrote the poem 囚歌 (Song of a prisoner) on the cell wall and also on a piece of paper that was smuggled out and became famous.
