Yan Jie (1941) was born in Fengzhen, Inner Mongolia. After his graduation from the Art Department of the Inner Mongolia Normal College in 1964, he became art editor with the Yikezhao League Publisher. He also worked with the Yikezhao League Museum and was deputy-director of the Yikezhao League Mass Art Center.

Yan is known for his oil paintings.
