"Five do's, four beauties" are the contents of ideological education and propaganda activities promoted in China in the early 1980s. The five do's refer to civilization, politeness, hygiene, order and morality; the four beauties refer to beauty of soul, language, behavior and environment. The five do's and four beauties were proposed on 25 February 1981. The All-China Federation of Trade Unions, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the All-China Women's Federation, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the Chinese Society of Ethics, the Chinese Linguistics Society, the All-China Aesthetics Society and the Central Patriotic Health Campaign Committee jointly issued the "Proposal on Carrying out Spiritual Civilization and Politeness Activities", proposing to carry out the "Five talks and four beauties" activities. On 28 February, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Security jointly issued a notice to support the nine groups' initiative to carry out the "Five do's and four beauties" activities.
