The mythical Yu Gong, the 'foolish old man who moved mountains', symbolizes perseverance and willpower. In Yan'an, in 1945, Mao Zedong retold this parable, "The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains", re-interpreting it as a call for collective action. It became known as one of the "Three Constantly Read Articles".
