The image on this poster is an oil painting, a later recreation of the actual event that took place in the Central Military Academy, Nanjing. Entitled "Nine o'clock on September 9th, 1945, Nanjing" (公元一千九百四十五年九月九日九时·南京), it was designed by Chen Jian (陈坚), and shows Japanese representatives offering the surrender document and their swords to the Chinese representative, He Yingqin, on 9 September 1945. Measuring 6x2.2 metres, it was created between 1987 and 2003.
