Peasants scooping fertile mud from the river to be used as fertilizer on the fields in winter. This was a widely publicized method of the poor and lower-middle peasants of the Longqiao Brigade in Wu County, Jiangsu Province. In the background is the famous 12th-century Wulong bridge (五龙桥 - Wulongqiao) from which the brigade took its name.
