"The moon of the Fifteenth" is a song describing the longing of a woman for her soldier husband, far away on border patrol, during the Mid-Autumn Festival, held on the 15th day of the 8th month in the lunar calendar, when the moon is full.
The song was composed in 1984 by lyricist Shi Xiang (石祥), and the composers Tie Yuan (铁源) and Xu Xiyi (徐锡宜), arranged by Lou Lianguang (娄连广). It was first first performed during the 1985 New Year's extravaganza (春晚), sung by Dong Zhenhou (董振厚). Combining sentimental romanticism and fierce patriotism, it became extremely popular with its combination of sentimentality and patriotism. One of the later performers of the song has been Peng Liyuan (1991).
