This poster follows the story of the 1950 movie Children's marriage - 儿女亲事. The story evolves around the main image (the festive wedding), starts top right, and goes counterclockwise.

A young woman (Li Xiulan - 李秀兰) and a young man (Wang Guichun - 王贵春), are model workers in the production mutual aid group, members of the New Democratic Youth League and... passionately in love. But Li's father has already arranged a profitable marriage for her with someone else, and is against the free marriage as made possible by the new Marriage Law. However, this arranged marriage cannot be registered by the district authorities without her consent. The father finally cancels the arranged marriage, but breaks off relations with his daughter. After their marriage Li Xiulan and Wang Guichun work even harder than before. When they help Li's father with the wheat harvest, he is finally convinced of the benefits of the free marriage and restores relations with his daughter.
