This scene is set in the Yaozhai village, Dayaoshan (大瑶山), Guangxi. Two elected representatives, both with a red corsage, are sent off to the First People's Congress of Yaoshan Autonomous Region, July 1954, with songs and music. One is a male Chashan Yao (茶山瑶), the other is a female Pan Yao (盘瑶), the two main branches of the Yao nationality in the region who did not entertain friendly relations before the People's Republic was established - according to the propaganda. The slogan on the mountainside top right reads All ethnic groups unite to build a new Dayaoshan! - (各民族团结起来 建設新的大瑶山)!
Yun Qicang and Liu Zhengde created this poster from sketches and drawings made when they toured the region extensively, accompanying local politician Jin Baosheng (金宝生), who was also good at singing 'mountain songs' (the literal translation of 山歌 - folk songs) and a poet. The poem in the top left corner might be written and calligraphed by him?
This is a print from the second impression (September 1954). The first impression was published by the Central South Literature and Art Publishing House (中南文学务术出版社).
