The parade is a mix of traditional and modern elements: costumed drum dancers, stilt-walkers, a lion and a dragon, workers in overalls with red flags and portraits of Mao Zedong and Zhu De. It takes place in People's Park in the center of Shanghai, built on the site of the old racecourse.
