People's Liberation Army troops entered Tianjin on 15 January 1949. This was an important victory in the final stages of the Civil War. The bridge over Hai river, on the left, was named Chiang Kai-shek Bridge at the time, and renamed Liberation Bridge (解放桥) later in 1949. In the background on the right is St. Joseph Cathedral (圣若瑟主教座堂), another famous Tianjin landmark.
