The textile worker holds a copy of the Constitution of the Chinese Communist Party (中国共产党章程), adopted April 1969. In the background is Wu Qionghua (吴琼花), heroine of the revolutionary model ballet The Red Detachment of Women (红色娘子军). It had been made into a film in 1961, then into a ballet in 1964, and then once more into a film in 1971. The story takes place on Hainan Island.
