"Fifty Glorious Years 1949-1999" (光辉的五十年1949-1999), designed by the Museum of the Chinese Revolution (中国革命博物馆) and published by the Zhongguo funü chubanshe (中国妇女出版社) and the Zhongguo dabaike quanshu chubanshe (中国大百科全书出版社) in 1999, is a series of 20 posters devoted to the period 1949-1999.

The developments that occurred after the adoption of Deng Xiaoping's strategy of Reform and Opening Up (改革开放) in 1978 receive more attention than the events preceding 1978. In that sense, the series celebrates the successes of Deng's actions. Jiang Zemin, Deng's successor, takes the credit for these successes as well.

The title reads "18. Urban and rural areas work together to achieve moderate prosperity" (18. 城乡携手奔小康).

The text reads "After 50 years of construction, our country's social productivity has developed rapidly and its comprehensive national strength has been greatly enhanced.
After the reform and opening up, the quality of life of the people has been greatly improved and enhanced, and the income of urban and rural residents has increased significantly. Over the past decade, urban and rural housing construction has developed rapidly and the market has become increasingly prosperous. In economically developed areas, people's lives have approached a well-off level; remote and secluded areas are bidding farewell to poverty and backwardness and moving towards a well-off level." (经过50年的建设,我国的社会生产力快速发展,综合国力大大增强。
改革开放以后,人民群众的生活质量有了很大的改善和提高,城乡居民收入有了明显的增长。十几年来,城乡住宅建设飞速发展,市场日益繁荣。经济发达地区,人民生活已经接近小康水平;边远偏僻地区,正在告别贫穷和落后,向小康迈进).

Photographs show new housing with private cars in Jiangsu; an electronics shop on Xidan, Beijing; a brass band in Jiangxi; moderately well-off Tibetans; elderly talking on the telephone; children playing; a savings bank.
