After heavy losses, the Communists reached and captured Zunyi (遵义, Guizhou Province) in January 1935. Here a crucial meeting of the Party's leadership was held to debate the military strategy, which resulted in a victory for Mao and his ideas on guerrilla warfare. Not much was publicly known about the meeting when this poster was produced. The meeting, and the exact site where it was held, became fixed parts of the Party's official history during the Cultural Revolution.
