The counter-revolutionary and restorationist crimes of Catholicism before Liberation
mid 1960s
Publisher unknown
54x38 cm.
BG D25/82

A two-part series detailing the counterrevolutionary activities and "crimes" perpetrated by the Roman Catholic Mission in China before and after 1949. Both series are incomplete: the first part lacks the opening sheets; the second part lacks at least one sheet, and possibly more at the end.
Due to this, it is impossible to indicate when the series were published, where, by whom, and for what specific purpose. The last evil deed discussed, at the end of part two, dates from July 1965, during the "Four Clean Ups" movement (四清运动). This suggests that the two series were published some time in the mid-1960s.
The names of the foreign missionaries have been identified as far as possible.

Above, “The American imperialist spy Hua Lizhu (bishop, secretary general of the Central Catholic Bureau) and others colluded with Jiang Jieshi to carry out counter-revolutionary activities. The picture shows Hua Lizhu (second from left) with Jiang Jieshi, the leader of the GMD reactionaries". (美帝国主义间谍犯罪华理柱(主教,天主教中央局秘书长)等和蒋介石勾结,进行反革命活动。图为华理柱(左二)与国民党反动派头子蒋介石在一起时拍的照片).

Hua Lizhu was the Chinese name of James Edward Walsh, MM (1891-1981), an American Roman Catholic priest and a bishop in China.

Middle, "The French imperialist Hui Jiliang (Auguste Haouisée, former bishop of Shanghai) called on Catholics to 'cooperate wholeheartedly' with the GMD reactionaries. War criminal and traitor Yu Bin (former bishop of Nanjing) and traitors Tian Gengshen (former bishop of Beijing) colluded with American imperialism to help Jiang Jieshi fight the civil war. The picture shows part of their reactionary speeches published in the 'Sacred Heart Newspaper' and 'Yi Shi Weekly'."

Yu Bin is Cardinal Paul Yü Pin (1901-1978). He was born in Lanxi County, Heilongjiang Province. He was the second cardinal of the Republic of China after Tian Gengshen.
Tian Gengshen (1890-1967), a famous Catholic, was the first cardinal in China and the Far East.

Below, “In 1947, Yu Bin, a war criminal and traitor, went to Northeast China to carry out anti-communist and anti-people conspiracy activities to help Jiang Jieshi fight the civil war. This is him arriving at Jilin Station." (一九四七年,战犯,汉奸于斌为帮助蒋介石打内战,到东北进行反共,反人民的阴谋活动。这是他到达吉林车站时的情况).
