In 2017, the Propaganda and Education Bureau of the Central Propaganda Department published a 10-poster series marking the 40th anniversary of the adoption of Deng Xiaoping's proposal to reform and open up the nation.
While lip service is paid to Deng, as well as his successors Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao, the main thrust of the series focusses on Xi Jinping, who is the subject of the majority of the posters.
Titled "Comprehensively deepening reform and opening up and successfully writing a new chapter of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era" (全面深化改革开放成功谱写新时代中国特色社会主义新篇章), this poster starts documenting the Xi Jinping era. It shows, amongst others, the Chang'E (嫦娥), China's first moon lander, arriving on the surface of the moon (2 December 2013); and the opening of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (2013).
