Poster 19 of a set of 23 posters, part of the Five Year plan to popularize legal knowledge (October 1986). The individual posters discuss various major laws, including the Constitution, Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Law, Marriage Law, etc.

The poster is devoted to the workings of the "Military Service Law of the PRC" (中华人民共和国兵役法). At the top, it states "The Military Service Law of the PRC is a law that stipulates our country's military service system, the composition and classification of armed forces, military training, and the rights and obligations of military personnel. It is also a set of rules that regulate the behavior of citizens in fulfilling their military service obligations" (中华人民共和国兵役法，是规定我国兵役制度，武装力量的组成与分类，军事训练，以及军事人员权利义务的法律，也是调整公民履行兵役义务的行为规则); below that, it indicates that "The PRC practices a system of compulsory military service as the main body, combining conscripts with voluntary soldiers, and combining militia with reserve service" (中华人民共和国实行义务兵役制为主体的义务兵与志愿兵相结合，民兵与预备役相结合的制度). The left side of the poster deals with "Recruiting and enlisting soldiers" (兵员的征集和招收), with sections about "Normal [or peacetime] recruitment" (平时征集); and "Recruitment of students" (招收学员). The right side of the poster is devoted to (from top to bottom) "Active and reserve service of soldiers -- Active service of soldiers -- Reserve service of soldiers" (士兵的现役和预备役 -- 士兵的现役  -- 士兵的预备役); and "Active and reserve service of officers -- Active service of officers -- Reserve service of officers (军官的现役和预备役 -- 军官的现役 -- 军官的预备役).
